5. APPLICATION

- Used as an intermediate in perfumery and bulk drugs.

- Methyl crotonate is used to investigate chemoselectivity in the reaction between methyl crotonate and benzylamine catalyzed by lipase B from Candida antarctica using solvent engineering. It was used as starting reagent during the total synthesis of phytotoxins solanapyrones D(1) and E(2) (E)-Crotonic Acid Methyl Ester is the methyl ester of Crotonic Acid which is found in water extracts from carrot seeds (Daucus carota L.) and is shown to have strong herbicidal properties.

- It is used as intermediate to manufacture Methyl-4-bromocrotonate which is used in Piperine API.
