Oil, Water and Stain Repellents

Oil water repellents are fluorocarbons with fluorine replacing a minimum of one hydrogen atom. Fluorocarbon polymers typically include a fluorinated component and a non-fluorinated polymeric backbone. The fluorinated part called the perfluoroalkyl group is common to all fluorochemical protectors. The greater the number of fluorine atoms attached to the carbon atoms and the more closely they are packed, the better is the water repellency of the fabric.
